According to a recent survey, Americans are getting less courteous and more rude. I learned about this from the evening news I watched a few days ago and already I experienced this trend today. And to my suprise, this behavior is not limited to the younger generation, but to the some old folks too.
As I was waiting inline to fill up my car with some gas at the Costco gas station, I noticed the car in front of the SUV (which is still in the process of filling up the gas tan) has just finished and pulled away from the pump. So, it's my turn to get the gas, since I believe the SUV in front of me should be done filling up soon, so I decided to wait. For one is that I don't like to pull up my car and back up again to line up with the pump. The other reason is that I feel it's easier for the SUV to leave and for the car behind me to pull up too. Well I guess the car behind me just can't wait and just pull over in front of me and took the pump in front of the SUV. Just as I suspected, as soon as the car stopped, the SUV finished filling up with the gas. So I just slowly and smoothly pull up my car to the pump. At first I thought the driver of the car might be a young cocky guy, but to my surprise, he is about in his 60s or late 50s.
Anyway, when I finished filling up the gas, he and his wife(?)were still trying to get the pump working. I guess they have problems with their credit card or something. The gas attendant is right next to them and I don't know why they don't ask for help. As I was leaving the parking lot, they were still there trying. I noticed the car license plate is from Idaho. I thought the people from other states have better common courtesy than the Californians these days, I guess I was wrong.
