DISCOVER OLD TOWN AT 4TH ANNUAL OPEN AIR FAIRES
OLD TOWN ELK GROVE FOUNDATION STILL ACCEPTING VENDOR APPLICATIONS

ELK GROVE, CA – The Old Town Elk Grove Foundation (Foundation) invites local residents and businesses to attend the 4th Annual Open Aire Faires held on the first Thursday of each month, June through September, from 5 to 9 p.m. on and around the sidewalks of Old Town Elk Grove. The faires are free and open to the public.

Thousands are expected to attend the aire faires, which will feature live entertainment, food vendors, bounce houses and more fun for the entire family. Local community organizations will also have booths at which the public can learn more about the services these groups offer.
Foundation planners are expecting the aire faires to continue to expand this year even amid construction of the Old Town Elk Grove Revitalization Project. The merchants are working with the city of Elk Grove to make sure the aire faires not only can happen but are well publicized.

“The city is working with us to help keep the aire faire tradition going and to build upon previous successes,” says Frank Maita, Foundation president. “We did not want to cancel the faires this year due to construction because we hear from our customers that they look forward to the free community events every year.”

The city is supporting the Foundation with its promotional and organizational efforts this year adding notice about the aire faires to the city’s “Elk Grove Thriving!” public service announcements on Comcast cable. Additionally, the Elk Grove Citizen, Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce and The Sacramento Bee have signed on as event sponsors.

“What started out as a small event to attract residents to Old Town,” says Jennifer Khul, owner of The Secret Garden and Open Aire Faire committee member, “has now grown so large that it’s hard for us to handle planning.”

Old Town merchants are pleased with the city’s cooperation to make sure the momentum of past years’ successful events can continue.

This year the theme’s are as follows:

June 2 – Discover Old Town – Discover the history and charm of Old Town, including walking tours every half-hour with well-known local historian Elizabeth Pinkerton.

July 7 – Painting Old Town Red, White and Blue – Display your patriotism for this night, everyone is encouraged to wear red, white and blue and display their American pride.

August 4 – Come Luau with Old Town – Come experience a little bit of Hawaii with Hawaiian Dancers, Hawaiian food, traditions and culture added to the mix of regular vendors.

Finally I got my own cordless electric lawn mower yesterday. Nope, you can't buy it at Home Depot or Lowes. I bought it at a good discount through SMUD's Mow Down Air Pollution program. I found out about this program last year but missed the registration deadline. I don't remember how I was remind about this year's drawing. Anyway, I am very excited about the mower. I assembled it right after I brought it home and wanted to try it out right away, you should see the tall grass at my lawn... Unfortunately, since the lawn mower is brand new, I need to charge it for at least 12 hours before using. Well this morning, I had another disappointment - it's raining!! But I can't resist to turn it on anyway. I pop the charged battery in and squeeze the handle bar and the mower started right away. It generated a lot less noise and weigh about 1/2 the weight of the gas mower and better looking too. I am impressed... can't wait to see its grass cutting performance... Please stop the rain.
